Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is a naturally occurring tissue enzyme that is released into the serum in individuals with various malignancies and infections, such as viral hepatitis, infectious mononucleosis, and tuberculosis. Elevated ADA levels in pleural fluid are commonly associated with tuberculosis, while increased levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are indicative of tuberculous meningitis. Higher serum ADA concentrations have shown potential as a screening tool and, when used alongside ALT or γ-GT (GGT) tests, can aid in diagnosing liver diseases. The Adazyme kit is designed to measure ADA activity in serum, plasma, and other biological fluids using an enzymatic method.
